TOUSIGNANT: A Selection
Opening Reception Saturday, April 29th, 2017 2 – 6 pm
Exhibition runs until: April 29th – June 10th
Christopher Cutts Gallery is delighted to be opening an exhibition by iconic Montreal painter Claude Tousignant. It has been over twenty years since Tousignant last exhibited at the Gallery.
This exhibition titled ‘A Selection’ is just that. A group of paintings, and a sculpture selected by Claude. In total, there are eight works on display, dating from 1962-2006. They are major works – five of which are diptychs. One Bleu-rouge / Vert-violet, 1980 is composed of two eighty-four inch in diameter tondi and another, Tableau relationnel, 1998 is two juxtaposed rectangular monochromes measuring sixty-seven by one hundred and nine inches each.
It is a breathtaking exhibition with a formalistic rigor that illustrates Tousignant’s insight into the relationship between the objet d’art and the critical subject (the viewer).
